Saving Noah, by DR. Lucinda Berry. I wouldn’t say I regret reading the book, but it was traumatic and made you take a look at the world in a slightly different way. It challenges your beliefs on certain topics and most people I bring the book up to (because it made THAT much of an impact) simply said they would not read it due to its contents. The author demonstrated tremendous knowledge of the subject and made you sympathize with a true “monster.” Those some parts of the book were repetitive; I think it overall was meant to symbolize and emphasize the magnitude of the situation. There’s a pull on your heart strings if you’re at all human. The ending really is what bumped up the rating for me. I just wish toward the end Noah could have found out the truth behind his fathers’ hatred. This book is not for everyone, and I considered putting it down but at the same time, I’m extremely happy I did not.
*SPOILER ALERT*
The book is about a young man (teenager) who realizes he is attracted to minors. He’s put in an position where he is tempted followed by the act of taking advantage of some young children who he was teaching swim lessons to. Majority of the book the mother pisses you off. But eventually when you hear Noah’s side of the story, the attempts he makes to not feel this way about young children, ultimately, he ends up taking his life after convincing his mother to assist him. The plot twist at the end is EVERYTHING.
So perhaps I don’t regret reading it and I don’t sympathize with pedophiles by any means, but it did make me look at the subject slightly different. It’s one of those books that you want to read for the first time again. The twist at the very end really is everything that makes the book and I didn’t even see it coming.
